We apply our knowledge and expertise to advising our clients on various construction issues such as design feasibility, product/material availability, value engineering, phasing, construction staging, scheduling, permits and governmental regulations. We examine design documents for errors and missing information and make suggestions regarding design and construction planning.

General Construction

We offer full-time expert supervision and labor for your project. Our trades subcontractors are among the best in the tri-state area. We complete your project—large or small, on time and within budget. We also specialize in fast-track projects.

THE TEAM

Ray Sheikh

PRESIDENT

After graduating from Rutgers University in 1984 with a degree in Chemical Engineering, Ray landed a full-time job at a construction company where he had been working part-time while still in college. He worked at Kuhn, Smith & Harris for a total of seven years, gaining valuable experience and steadily rising in rank while getting his MBA from Columbia University. Ray started out as an assistant, then became an estimator, and eventually was made a Vice President at KSH, overseeing all New Jersey projects. Then, in 1990, Ray left the security of his successful position to launch The Leegis Group. With virtually no capital, he began operating out of his New Brunswick apartment, leveraging the few existing business contacts he had to slowly grow his company. Over the next 25 years, The Leegis Group grew organically with a tremendous amount of hard work.

Ray has developed the company into a successful, multi-million dollar business by focusing heavily on cultivating interpersonal relationships. He believes that every customer is important, regardless of the size of the project, and he works tirelessly to ensure every client is completely satisfied. With over 30 years of experience, Ray is extraordinarily knowledgeable regarding all aspects of the construction industry. His responsibilities include overseeing The Leegis Group as a whole, as well as all of the company’s current projects. Ray is also in charge of the sales process from end to end, including attracting new business, handling pricing, contract negotiations, and closing deals.

When he is not working or spending time with his family, Ray enjoys working out, adventure travel (especially gorilla trekking in Africa) and volunteering.

Vidas Kontrimas

EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT

Vidas graduated from Kaunas University of Technology in Lithuania with a Masters

Degree in Civil Engineering and Construction Management. He joined The Leegis Group

Project team in 2008 as an Assistant Project Manager and soon worked his

way up to Project Manager. In July 2020 Vidas was appointed Executive Vice President.

His over ten years of knowledge, experience, and dedication make him a valuable member of the TLG team as well as an excellent addition to any project team.

Vidas is responsible for overseeing estimating, completion (finances, schedules, scope) of projects from start to finish, subcontractor and vendor buyouts, preparation of cash flow reports and budgets, project and operations management, preconstruction estimating input, and subcontractor and vendor bid package preparation.

Outside of the office, Vidas enjoys mountain biking.

IN MEMORY OF

Wayne Ball

EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT

Wayne graduated from Rutgers University in 1986 and accepted a position at Kuhn, Smith & Harris where college friend Ray Sheikh was already employed. Wayne worked first as an office intern, then assistant estimator before eventually becoming an estimator for the construction company. In 1991, a year after Ray launched The Leegis Group, he asked Wayne to join the company.

Wayne had over 27 years of experience in the construction industry and over 25 years of estimating experience, Wayne handled the majority of the estimating as well as contract buyouts for The Leegis Group. He worked diligently to ensure that each of The Leegis Group’s customers receive an accurate, honest estimate at the beginning of the bidding process. Wayne also assisted in managing projects for the company.

Wayne is survived by his wife and two children, and was a very active and dedicated family man. When not spending time with his family, Wayne enjoyed fishing, cooking, and coaching basketball for the Amateur Athletic Union.

SAFETY

Leegis strives to provide a work environment that is safe for everyone. The safety and health of everyone on our job sites is our primary concern. Safety takes a commitment from all personnel within our organization.

We have developed a comprehensive safety program that addresses our specific safety concerns and provides guidance for the performance of our individual job tasks within the framework of appropriate Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) standards.

All who work on a job site receive interactive safety training, included, but not limited to, safety meetings, on-the-job training, on-line courses, formal instruction, and/or any other relevant methods needed.

Safety training needs are identified by continual reassessment of our work methods, equipment, and workstations, as well as employee and management input.

Frequent and regular job site inspections are conducted by supervisory personnel and/or other competent persons.

On every job site there is a competent person, by virtue of training or experience, who has the authority to stop work. Additionally, everyone has the authority to stop work for their immediate task if they are aware of a safety hazard that cannot be immediately corrected. If work stops for an unresolved safety hazard, the supervisor is contacted immediately.

Equipment operator/owner manuals are readily available and the safety procedures contained therein are followed. Equipment is to be inspected prior to use and, if defective, tagged out of service. Safety Data Sheets SDS are available at all job sites to provide comprehensive information about a substance/mixture that is in use in compliance with workplace chemical management.

When necessary, at healthcare and/or other occupied facilities job sites, Infection Control Risk Assessment ICRA is put into place to allow us to properly perform our work, while not disrupting the health and well-being of those in the surrounding areas. Our site supervisors that work in areas that require ICRA are properly trained. Site supervisors continuously update their knowledge of this important safety procedure.

TESTIMONIALS

“…I can attest that we have been extremely pleased with all phases of the general contracting work performed at the College by The Leegis Group. Ray Sheikh and Wayne Ball have both been actively involved with our work, and have never let us down. Their work has always been on schedule and within budget.”

Jim Gerrish Director of Facilities
College of Saint Elizabeth

“Leegis constructed a major addition to the dining hall at Gill St. Bernard’s School and the project was under budget and completed on time. The company was extremely professional during all aspects of the project from proposal to punch list. All of the subcontractors and all of the Leegis employees shared a commitment to customer satisfaction and they all shared a sense of urgency in completing the project within the budget and time constraints. I would give the Leegis Group and its President, Ray Sheikh, my highest recommendation.”

Stephen J. Graham

Chief Financial Officer
Gill St. Bernard’s School

“I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Sheikh on many projects at Drew University since 2007, including our most recent project together, the Ehinger Center. I can recommend The Leegis Group, Mr. Sheikh and his entire team without reservation.

Throughout the course of any of the projects, Mr. Sheikh and his team were the consummate professionals. He is always accurate in his initial assessment of the scale and cost of the projects. He is absolutely clear in his project documentation and RFI questions. He chooses and manages the subcontractors very well. All the projects are performed and completed on time, with care and with precision. In addition, The Leegis Group runs a very safe and tidy work site.

The cooperation and collaboration that The Leegis Group bring to the table is greatly appreciated. This atmosphere creates a truly enjoyable project environment for everyone involved. I look forward to the opportunity to work with The Leegis Group again.”

James Hall, P.E. Director of Campus Planning, Design and Construction
Drew University

“It was clear from the beginning that The Leegis Group was owning the project, and they were fully prepared to dovetail seamlessly in finishing out a facility that had an occupied first floor. Timing and coordination of all construction activities were paramount in their consideration of maintaining a safe, productive worksite. They partnered with the owner, and we were kept fully informed throughout the course of the project.

As the owner’s representative on this project, one of the more notable features of the Leegis program was the three tiered management structure which included the company principal, Ray Sheikh. He was never out of the loop and was always available in support of the project, his staff, and owner. Ray’s involvement only served to enhance the effectiveness of his highly qualified project manager and site supervisor.

Of course the goal for any construction project is to produce a high quality product that comes in on time and on budget; a success that came as the result of their considerable effort.

I would welcome the opportunity to build again with the Leegis Group.”

Steve Lewandowski

Owner Representative
Rutgers Preparatory School

“The recent completion of the Carol & Park B. Smith Middle School, on schedule and on budget is without a doubt one of the finest experiences we have had with a General Contractor in the 10 years I have been at Pingry. The Professionalism of your staff from Project Managers and Superintendents to the Laborers was exceptional. In addition, your ability to bring to the project some of the finest sub-contractors in the area, whose willingness to perform above and often beyond our expectations is to be applauded.”

Michael J. Virzi

Director of Facilities
The Pingry School

“The Leegis Group has been doing construction for the Saint Barnabas Health Care System for the past several years. They have performed small renovations as well as multi-million dollar projects. During that time, they have demonstrated an excellent understanding of the owner’s needs and provided an exceptional outcome in all projects.

They are keenly aware of the complexities of working in a healthcare setting and perform such with attention to those needs and requirements in a most successful manner.

[…] I highly recommend them for any project, and I have full confidence in their ability.”
